"Can we please have a Government that avoids a "we-know-best" approach, and lets Aucklanders choose their form of development?"

Just for the record, what's your position on Maori seats for the Auckland Council? Because last I heard Labour supported that, despite the fact that the majority of Aucklanders don't want it.

Why doesn't Labour explain the huge costs associated with the sprawl vision? Ormiston High School in Flat Bush cost $50m. Necessary only because 40k people are intended to be accommodated in an area with no existing facilities. Could've added sufficient capacity to existing schools for a fraction of that, but then it'd breach MoE requirements about distance to the nearest school.

Toss in extra costs for police and fire - longer patrol distances mean more police stations, probably getting close to requiring the relocation or addition of a fire station to maintain response times - plus the utilities and it's extremely expensive to sprawl. Vastly more expensive than intensifying existing areas to add the same number of residents.
