Nicely said, Jordan. I think that people are very excited by the changes, and very, very keen to have their say in who gets to lead the party.

thank you for this post jordan, i couldn't agree more. the parliamentary wing exists because of the membership and are selected in order to implement the collective wishes of members. they should be keen to seek the support of members, particularly for leadership. after all, if you can't even convince your own members, how will you convince the wider electorate? recent history shows that you can't.

The Conference that I saw was much as Jordan has ably described it. There was a great vibe and some genuine democracy in action. There were also clumsy efforts by some journalists to hound MPs into uttering unwise words and attempts to insert words into their mouths. While the attention inflamed a potential leadership challenge into a scrub fire it was never a big blaze. The Party has more important work to do further developing policy concepts into workable proposals, so it is good to get the distraction out of the way.
